JOINT BASE ANDREWS PAINT PROTECTION FILM
Joint Base Andrews sits just outside the Beltway in Prince George's County, and getting anywhere from it means I-495, Branch Avenue, or Suitland Parkway. Those three roads have some of the roughest pavement in the region: pothole patches, bridge joints, and a steady line of dump trucks headed for job sites around National Harbor and the District. Airmen and civilians at Andrews also leave cars in open lots for days while crews are on trips. We see the result when they come to Chantilly: sandblasted bumpers, chipped hood edges, and headlights going hazy on cars that are barely two years old.
This page covers why Andrews cars take the damage they do, how the three STEK DYNOshield packages fit them, and how to make a one-day install work from the Maryland side of the river. Our shop is in Chantilly, VA, about 50 minutes around the Beltway and out I-66, and it is the only place we install, so plan a real trip rather than a lunch break. Because most of these cars stay registered in Maryland, the tint rules that differ from Virginia's are covered in the questions below as well.
From Joint Base Andrews, take I-495 across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge or around the top of the Beltway to I-66 west, then Route 28 north to Walney Road in Chantilly; outside rush hour it is about 50 minutes.
Why the front end
WHAT JOINT BASE ANDREWS DOES TO YOUR PAINT
The Beltway in both directions
Whether you cross the Wilson Bridge or go up through College Park, I-495 is the fastest-moving truck route in the region, and the Springfield interchange and the bridge approaches are perpetually under some kind of work. Stones at 65 mph do the most damage.
Branch Avenue and Suitland Parkway
Route 5 and the Parkway are how most of Andrews gets to and from the base. Both are patched concrete and asphalt with crumbling joints, and the gravel that works loose sits in the lane until a tire finds it.
Cars that sit while crews fly
Aircrew and maintainers on trips leave cars in open lots for days at a stretch. Sun, bird droppings, and tree pollen have all that time to work on unprotected clear coat, and a film top coat with a ceramic layer over it rinses clean instead.
Shift work and dark lots
Flightline hours start before sunrise and end after dark, when a lot is at its emptiest and a careless door or shopping cart goes unnoticed. Door edges and cups are where that shows, which is why full front extended exists.
How it works for you
DROP-OFF, TIMING, AND PAYING
GETTING THE CAR TO CHANTILLY
Plan on a 9 AM drop and a late-afternoon pickup for a full front, which means leaving Andrews around 8. A film-and-coating install is two days, so most Maryland customers pair it with a long weekend or a trip and have a spouse or friend handle one leg of the drive.
PCS, TRIPS, AND TDY
Arriving at Andrews on orders with a new car, book the film for the week you take delivery. Heading out on a long trip or a deployment, film it the week before you go so the paint is sealed while it sits. If a tasking changes your dates, the deposit is refundable and the install simply moves.
THE DEPOSIT AND PAYMENT PLANS
Reserving your date takes a 20% deposit that is fully refundable and counts toward the total. The balance is due after the walk-and-pay inspection under our lights at pickup. Klarna, Afterpay, and Affirm are all accepted if you want to split it up, and anyone active duty, reserve, or a veteran should say so on the quote form.
Three packages
WHAT EACH PACKAGE COVERS
Partial Front
High-impact zones only · Half a day
Bumper, 18 inches of the hood, fender edges, and mirrors. The minimum that makes sense for the Beltway, and the film line partway up the hood is the trade-off for covering less.
- Full front bumper
- Leading 18" of the hood
- Leading edge of both fenders
- Side mirrors
Full Front
What most drivers choose · One day
Whole hood, bumper, both fenders, mirrors, headlights, and A-pillars. On a car that lives on I-495 and Branch Avenue this is the package we recommend, and it fits in one day.
- Full hood
- Full front bumper
- Both full fenders
- Side mirrors
- Headlights
- A-pillars
Full Front Extended
Front end plus the wear areas · One to two days
Adds rockers, door edges, and door cups to everything in full front. Worth it for the trucks and large SUVs that get loaded with gear in a dark lot before a trip.
- Everything in Full Front
- Rocker panels
- Door edges and door cups
- Door strips
- A-pillars (halfway)
Pricing depends on the vehicle and the coverage you pick. What sets a PPF quote, or request yours and we reply with an exact number.

A walk through the body shop showing why the hood, fenders, bumper, and headlights take the hits, and why full front PPF covers exactly those panels.
Can You Spot the PPF?
Two cars, both filmed. A proper install is wrapped under the hood edges and tucked into the bumper, so there is no line to find.
Questions
JOINT BASE ANDREWS PPF QUESTIONS
People from Andrews, Bowie, and Waldorf make the trip every week, so we think so. The film is STEK DYNOshield with a 12-year manufacturer warranty, the patterns are computer-cut for your exact year and trim, and the install happens in a dust-controlled bay rather than a lot. For a car you will keep for years, 50 minutes each way is time well spent.
Not for film; paint protection has no legal limits in either state. It matters for tint. Maryland allows 35% VLT on every window of a passenger car, which is darker than Virginia permits up front, so if you add GeoShield tint on the same visit we cut it to Maryland's limit for a Maryland-registered car.
Pick a day you know you will be home, because full front is a one-day job and you need to be there for the inspection at pickup. Adding a coating makes it two days. Crew schedules move, so if yours does, the 20% deposit stays refundable and we rebook the install.
Yes, mostly by keeping salt out of chips that are already there. Brine finds every break in the clear coat and starts rust under the paint. Film means there are no breaks on the front end, and a Gtechniq coating over the film and the rest of the car makes the winter grime rinse off with a hose.
Usually, yes. GeoShield ceramic tint takes two to three hours and happens while the film cures, so a full front plus tint still finishes in one day. It is metal-free, so your phone and toll transponder keep working, and it carries a nationwide lifetime warranty that follows the car to your next duty station.

"Great people to deal with. Owner was very transparent with all their services and they offer payment plans. I got the front half of my car PPF'd and back half ceramic coated (one of the packages they offered) and has been raining for a few days on an off. You cant even tell it rained. The PPF and ceramic coat works as intended."
