Rivian R1S · Chantilly, VA

R1S PAINT PROTECTION FILM

The R1S is a tall, flat-fronted SUV with a hood that sits at the height of a pickup's tailgate and a pair of oval headlights that are the first thing anyone notices about it. Both take the full force of what comes off I-95 and the gravel haul routes on Route 28. The colors Rivian sells, from Rivian Blue to Compass Yellow, are deep and expensive to match, so a chipped nose on an R1S is not a quick fix.

We film R1S trucks in the Chantilly shop every week, most of them within the first month of delivery. This page covers where this body takes damage, what partial, full front, and full front extended mean on it, how the film works around the cameras and the front-fender charge door, what changed between Gen 1 and Gen 2, and the questions Rivian owners ask before they book. Our Rivian page covers the R1T as well.

What we see in the bay

WHERE A R1S TAKES DAMAGE

The hood's leading edge

The R1S hood is flat and tall with a near-vertical front edge, so stones hit it square. Chips sit in the first foot of the panel, right where you look as you walk up.

The oval headlights

The stadium lamps are large, exposed, and costly to replace. Grit pits the lenses on the highway and dulls them long before the LEDs give out.

Bumper and lower fascia

The painted portion of the bumper faces straight ahead at truck height. Gravel from the car in front hits it full width, and the lower black section scuffs on trailheads.

Rockers and door edges

An R1S that leaves pavement gets gravel pickup along the rockers and brush along the doors. Three rows of passengers also mean door edges meeting garage walls.

Three packages

WHAT EACH PACKAGE COVERS ON THE R1S

Partial Front

High-impact zones only · Half a day

Painted bumper, the first 18 inches of the hood, fender edges, and mirror caps. The line on a flat hood this tall is easy to see from the driver's seat, especially on Forest Green or El Cap Granite.

  • Full front bumper
  • Leading 18" of the hood
  • Leading edge of both fenders
  • Side mirrors
Most chosen

Full Front

What most drivers choose · One day

Full hood as one piece, both fenders into the arches, the bumper, mirrors, the oval headlights, and A-pillars. The fender piece is cut around the charge door. Our recommendation for an R1S that commutes.

  • Full hood
  • Full front bumper
  • Both full fenders
  • Side mirrors
  • Headlights
  • A-pillars

Full Front Extended

Front end plus the wear areas · One to two days

Full front plus the rockers, door edges, and door cups on all four doors. For a Rivian that heads to a trailhead in the George Washington National Forest or carries a full third row, this is the one.

  • Everything in Full Front
  • Rocker panels
  • Door edges and door cups
  • Door strips
  • A-pillars (halfway)

CAMERAS AND SENSORS

The R1S carries cameras in the front bumper and behind the windshield, plus sensors in the fascia. Every window is cut out of the pattern and left bare so Driver+ and the parking cameras work as delivered. Nothing is filmed over a lens.

CHARGE DOOR ON THE FRONT FENDER

The charge port sits on the driver's side front fender, ahead of the door. The fender piece is cut around the door with the edges tucked, so it opens freely and nothing lifts when you plug in.

GEN 1 AND GEN 2

The Gen 2 trucks that began in 2024 changed the headlights and the camera and sensor suite, so they use a different front pattern set from Gen 1. The body panels look the same from across the lot, but we cut for the exact build.

Questions

RIVIAN R1S PPF QUESTIONS

No. Each camera and sensor window is cut out of the pattern before the film reaches the truck, and the windshield camera is untouched. Adaptive cruise, lane assist, and the surround cameras behave the same as before, and we film Rivians often enough to know.
