GLE PAINT PROTECTION FILM
The GLE is the Mercedes we film most, and the GLE 53 Coupe in our gallery is typical: a tall, upright nose with a huge grille, a flat hood, and a bumper that dealers in Tysons and Chantilly hand over without a scratch on it. That upright face is exactly what gravel on the Dulles Toll Road is aimed at. Full front STEK film on a GLE covers the hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors, lights, and pillars and is done in a day.
What follows is where a GLE picks up chips in Northern Virginia, how the three packages fit both the SUV and the Coupe body, how we work around the parking sensors and the radar behind the star, and which trims change the bumper. The AMG cars get their own patterns, and so do the 2024 facelift models, so have the year and trim handy when you book.

WHERE A GLE TAKES DAMAGE
A vertical grille and the bars around it
The GLE grille is tall and nearly vertical, and the painted bumper bars at its base take stones squarely. The AMG Panamericana grille has even more painted frame to hit.
A flat hood at truck height
The GLE hood sits level with the beds of the pickups on Route 28, so what they throw lands on top rather than underneath. Chips here are visible every time you walk up.
The lower bumper under the intakes
The painted lower section under the intakes gets sandblasted by anything the tires ahead kick up. On AMG Line bumpers that painted area is bigger.
Mirrors and the long headlights
The GLE's mirrors ride high and wide, and the headlights curve around into the fenders. Both pit, and both are included in full front.

SENSORS, CAMERA, AND THE STAR
The GLE carries parking sensors across the bumper and a front camera in the grille area, and the radar for the driver assists sits behind the star. All of it is cut around; nothing is filmed over, so the distance assist and the 360 camera are unchanged.
SUV, COUPE, AND AMG PATTERNS
The GLE SUV and the GLE Coupe are cut from separate pattern sets, as are the AMG 53 and 63 S bumpers. We confirm the body and trim before we cut so the pieces land on the panel breaks.
2024 FACELIFT
The 2024 update brought a new grille, revised headlights, and a new bumper. Those cars use their own patterns, as do the earlier 2020 to 2023 models, and the two are not interchangeable.

Two cars, both filmed. A proper install is wrapped under the hood edges and tucked into the bumper, so there is no line to find.

MERCEDES-BENZ GLE PPF QUESTIONS
The painted bumper frame around the grille is covered. The vertical slats themselves are left open so airflow and the radar behind the star are untouched. That is the same approach we take on every AMG that comes through the shop.
No. The radar, the parking sensors, and the front camera all have their windows cut out of the pattern before the film is applied. The distance assist, the brake assist, and the surround-view camera behave the same after the install.
With full front, no, because the whole hood is covered in one piece with the edge wrapped underneath. With partial front, yes on dark colors, which is why we steer most GLE owners to full front from the start.
One day for full front. Full front extended on a GLE usually needs part of a second day because the rockers and door edges are long, and a Gtechniq ceramic coating over the film adds another day after that.
You can, but the hood section is replaced rather than extended, because a seam in the middle of the panel would show. Most owners find it simpler and cleaner to choose full front at the start and skip the second visit.
