X5 PAINT PROTECTION FILM

The X5 is the BMW we see most often in Chantilly, and nearly all of them arrive straight from a dealer in Sterling or Tysons with under a hundred miles on the clock. That timing is right. The X5 sits tall enough that its hood and bumper face the spray from every truck on Route 28, and the big kidney grille surrounds are painted or chromed pieces that pit quickly. Full front STEK film goes on in a day and keeps the front end looking like the day it left the lot.

This page walks through where an X5 actually takes damage in Northern Virginia traffic, what partial front, full front, and full front extended cover on this body, how we handle the parking sensors and surround-view camera in the nose, and which trims change the pattern. We cut for the exact year, because the 2024 facelift moved the headlights and reshaped the bumper, and a template from an older car does not fit.

What we see in the bay

WHERE A X5 TAKES DAMAGE

Hood at truck-spray height

An X5 hood sits roughly level with the tailgate of a pickup, so the grit a truck throws on I-66 lands on the hood and the top of the bumper instead of under the car.

Kidney grille surrounds

The grille frames and the painted bumper bars between them take stones first. The surrounds are covered in every package; the mesh behind them is left open for airflow.

Fender tops and headlights

The X5's fenders are high and flat, and the headlights are wide. Both collect pitting from the airstream, and the fenders are part of full front for a reason.

Mirror caps on a wide body

The X5 is wide and the mirrors stick out past the fenders, so they catch spray the hood misses. They are included even in partial front.

Three packages

WHAT EACH PACKAGE COVERS ON THE X5

Partial Front

High-impact zones only · Half a day

Front bumper, the first 18 inches of the hood, the leading edge of each fender, and the mirror caps. On an X5 the hood is long enough that the film line sits well into the panel, so expect to see it on a black or blue car.

  • Full front bumper
  • Leading 18" of the hood
  • Leading edge of both fenders
  • Side mirrors
Most chosen

Full Front

What most drivers choose · One day

The entire hood as one sheet, both fenders, the bumper, mirror caps, headlights, and A-pillars, with edges tucked under the hood lip and into the wheel arches. This is the package we recommend for an X5 that commutes.

  • Full hood
  • Full front bumper
  • Both full fenders
  • Side mirrors
  • Headlights
  • A-pillars

Full Front Extended

Front end plus the wear areas · One to two days

Everything in full front plus the rocker panels, the door edges, and the door cups. The X5's wide sills get kicked every time someone climbs in, and the door cups scratch from rings and keys.

  • Everything in Full Front
  • Rocker panels
  • Door edges and door cups
  • Door strips
  • A-pillars (halfway)

SENSORS AND THE SURROUND-VIEW CAMERA

The X5 carries parking sensors across the bumper and a camera in the nose for the surround view. Each sensor window is cut out of the pattern before the film touches the car, so Parking Assistant and the 360 view behave exactly as they did before.

2024 LCI VERSUS 2019 TO 2023

The 2024 facelift brought new headlights, a new bumper, and an illuminated grille option. Those pieces changed the pattern set, so we cut for the specific year rather than adapting an older template.

FILM FIRST, COATING SECOND

Most X5 owners add a Gtechniq ceramic coating over the film and the uncovered paint. The film stops chips; the coating keeps brake dust and road salt from sticking through a Virginia winter.

Can You Spot the PPF?

Two cars, both filmed. A proper install is wrapped under the hood edges and tucked into the bumper, so there is no line to find.

Questions

BMW X5 PPF QUESTIONS

Yes. The lit surrounds are covered by the same bumper pattern as the standard grille; the film is clear, so the lighting shows through unchanged. The mesh behind the frames stays open. Tell us the car has the illuminated grille when you book and we cut that version.
