4RUNNER PAINT PROTECTION FILM

The sixth-generation 4Runner has a tall, blunt front end and a hood you can set a toolbox on, and both of them get hammered on Route 28 and the gravel roads out past Route 50. The Trailhunter in our gallery came in the week it was delivered, which is the right call: a 4Runner that waits a season has chips in the hood and the bumper corners before its first oil change. Full front STEK film takes a day and covers the panels that matter.

This page explains where a 4Runner takes damage in Northern Virginia, what each of our three packages covers on this body, how we handle the Trailhunter's high-mount intake and the off-road trims' unpainted sections, and which trims change the pattern. If you plan to use the truck the way Toyota built it, read the extended package note before you decide.

What we see in the bay

WHERE A 4RUNNER TAKES DAMAGE

The hood, all of it

The 4Runner hood is tall and flat, and it catches the spray from every truck ahead. Stones that would go under a sedan land on top of this one.

The bumper corners

The painted upper corners of the bumper lead the way on a wide SUV. The lower section is unpainted plastic on most trims and takes care of itself; the painted corners above it do not.

Fender tops and the arch edges

The 4Runner's front fenders are tall and the arch edges sit right behind the tire, so sand and winter cinders pit them. Full front covers the entire fender.

Rockers and door cups

Trail driving and kids climbing over the sills chew up the rockers, and the door cups on a 4Runner scratch from keys and gloves. These are the extended package.

Three packages

WHAT EACH PACKAGE COVERS ON THE 4RUNNER

Partial Front

High-impact zones only · Half a day

Bumper, the leading 18 inches of that big hood, the fender edges, and the mirrors. The line sits high on a flat hood, so it is visible on anything but white.

  • Full front bumper
  • Leading 18" of the hood
  • Leading edge of both fenders
  • Side mirrors
Most chosen

Full Front

What most drivers choose · One day

The whole hood, both fenders, the bumper, mirrors, headlights, and A-pillars, with edges wrapped. Our recommendation for a 4Runner that commutes during the week and sees dirt on the weekend.

  • Full hood
  • Full front bumper
  • Both full fenders
  • Side mirrors
  • Headlights
  • A-pillars

Full Front Extended

Front end plus the wear areas · One to two days

Everything above, plus rocker panels, door edges, and door cups. On a 4Runner this is the package to get if you take it off pavement at all; the rockers take branches and gravel and the door edges meet rocks when you climb out.

  • Everything in Full Front
  • Rocker panels
  • Door edges and door cups
  • Door strips
  • A-pillars (halfway)

TRAILHUNTER HIGH-MOUNT INTAKE

The Trailhunter's air intake runs up the passenger-side A-pillar. The A-pillar film on that side is cut around the intake housing so it sits flat with no edge against the snorkel. The driver side gets the normal pillar piece.

PAINTED VERSUS UNPAINTED

The 4Runner uses unpainted black plastic for the lower bumper and some trim on the off-road grades. We film painted surfaces only; the textured plastic does not take film and does not need it. That keeps the package focused on what costs money to repair.

HYBRID AND NON-HYBRID, SAME BODY

The i-FORCE MAX hybrid and the standard i-FORCE engine share the sheet metal, so the powertrain does not change the front patterns. Trim does, which is why we ask for it when you book.

By trim

TOYOTA 4RUNNER TRIMS WE FILM

4Runner SR5 / Limited / Platinum

Painted bumper corners and standard fenders; full front is the usual job.

4Runner TRD Off-Road / TRD Sport

Same body; owners usually add rockers with the extended package.

4Runner TRD Pro

Own grille and bumper details; cut for that trim.

4Runner Trailhunter

High-mount intake on the A-pillar; pillar film cut around it.

Questions

TOYOTA 4RUNNER PPF QUESTIONS

For what a Northern Virginia 4Runner sees, yes. Gravel, branches brushing the fenders, and mud rinse off the film the same way they do paint, and the self-healing top coat takes care of light scratches in the sun. Deep gouges from rocks are still gouges; the film takes them instead of the paint.
