WRANGLER PAINT PROTECTION FILM
A Wrangler meets the road like a wall. The hood is flat, the windshield is close to vertical, and the grille faces straight into traffic, so stones that would skip off a sloped sedan hit a JL square and stay. Owners usually notice the damage first on the leading edge of the hood and across the top of the grille, after one winter on Route 28 behind salt trucks. Film on the hood and nose is what keeps a Wrangler looking the way it left the lot.
Wranglers also leave the pavement more often than anything else we film, and trail brush does to the doors what gravel does to the front. This page walks through where a JL takes damage, what each of our three packages covers on a body with plastic flares and removable doors, how we handle the hood latches, the exposed hinges, and the 4xe charge door, and the questions Wrangler owners around Chantilly ask before they book.
What we see in the bay
WHERE A WRANGLER TAKES DAMAGE
The flat leading edge of the hood
The JL hood is a horizontal shelf with a vertical lip at the front. Stones hit that lip head-on, and because the panel is flat, every chip is in plain view from the driver's seat.
Grille frame and headlight rings
The painted grille surround sits level with the tailgate of the pickup ahead of you. Gravel and ice chunks off I-66 land on the bars between the seven slots and on the round headlight bezels.
Windshield frame and A-pillars
With the glass that upright, grit that clears the hood hits the painted frame around it. Those pillars are thin and hard to repaint without a visible blend into the roof.
Pinstriping from the trail
Branches on a fire road scratch the doors, rockers, and rear quarters in long lines. The self-healing top coat of STEK DYNOshield takes those light scratches out in the sun, which is why Wrangler owners add the door package.
Three packages
WHAT EACH PACKAGE COVERS ON THE WRANGLER
Partial Front
High-impact zones only · Half a day
On most Wranglers the front bumper is textured black plastic that does not take film, so partial front here means the leading 18 inches of the hood, the painted fender tops ahead of the flares, and the mirror caps where they are body color. A visible line sits across the hood.
- Full front bumper
- Leading 18" of the hood
- Leading edge of both fenders
- Side mirrors
Full Front
What most drivers choose · One day
The whole hood as one piece, cut around the two latches, plus the painted grille frame, both fenders, headlights, mirror caps, and the windshield frame and A-pillars. Where the bumper is painted, as on High Altitude, it gets a piece too. This is the package we recommend for any JL that drives the Toll Road to work.
- Full hood
- Full front bumper
- Both full fenders
- Side mirrors
- Headlights
- A-pillars
Full Front Extended
Front end plus the wear areas · One to two days
Adds the rocker area, door edges, and door cups. On trucks with rock rails, the film covers the painted sill above the rail. Worth it for anything that sees a fire road out past Front Royal or a garage shared with bikes.
- Everything in Full Front
- Rocker panels
- Door edges and door cups
- Door strips
- A-pillars (halfway)

LATCHES AND HINGES
The JL hood has two exterior latches, and the hinges and windshield pivots are all exposed. The hood pattern is cut around each latch base and the edge wraps under the lip so nothing lifts when you pop the hood. Hinges stay bare; we do not film textured parts.
PLASTIC FLARES VERSUS PAINTED FLARES
Sport and Rubicon flares are molded black plastic and are left alone. Sahara and High Altitude flares are body color and chip at the front corner, so they get their own piece. Tell us the trim and we cut the right set.
REMOVABLE DOORS AND THE 4XE CHARGE DOOR
Mirrors on a JL are mounted to the doors, and the mirror and door-cup pieces stay put when the doors come off for summer. On the 4xe, the charge port door on the driver's front fender is cut around so it opens freely.

Black plastic flares and bumper; full front covers the hood, grille, fenders, and pillars.
Wrangler Sahara
Body-color flares and painted grille; the flare corners get film. Full front is the common pick.
Wrangler Rubicon
Black flares, often rock rails and a steel bumper; owners tend to add the door cups and edges.
Wrangler 4xe
Same body as the trim it is based on, with the charge door cut around on the front fender.

Questions
JEEP WRANGLER PPF QUESTIONS
Yes. The hood is one piece of film cut around the two latch bases, and the pattern wraps the front lip. Up close you see the latch and a clean circle of film around it, not a seam across the panel. Nothing is cut on the truck; the pattern is plotted before it touches paint.
No. Textured plastic does not hold film and does not need it, since it does not chip. We film the painted steel: hood, fenders, grille frame, mirrors where they are painted, and the windshield frame. On a Sahara with painted flares, the flares get their own piece.
Yes, in full front. The A-pillars and the painted frame around the glass are included because the upright windshield puts them in the line of fire. Partial front skips them, which is one reason we steer most JL owners toward full front.
Full front extended. Trail brush scratches doors, rockers, and door edges, and the self-healing top coat takes care of the light stuff after a day in the sun. The door cups and edges also cover the wear from doors coming on and off every season.
Full front is a one-day job, dropped off at 9 AM and ready that afternoon. Full front extended runs into a second day, and a Gtechniq coating over the film adds a day as well. Soft tops and half doors do not change the schedule.
